Pink Eyeliner Editorial Shoot

Introduction

This shoot took place on 19/02/2020 on campus here @ The Manchester College, Fielden Campus in West Disbsbury.

Research and Inspiration

I created a Pinterest board titled ‘Coloured Eyeliner’ for inspiration for the look I wanted to go for, for my first shoot. https://pin.it/S9lJ08q. I knew that I wanted the shoot to be editorial style, with the pink eyeliner as the main focus of the look and the dewy complexion and sleek back hair complimenting it well. My research images from my Pinterest board really inspired me to do a coloured eyeliner look as I wanted my portfolio to showcase that I can create an eyeliner, which is a required skill within the industry but I wanted to put my own twist on it and make it pink so it would stand out and stay with the style I like to do which is editorial.

I came across a graphic liner look titled ‘A-Grade liner’ from Glamour Magazine. I was really inspired by this particular look because it is a different variation of a normal eyeliner look with an editorial twist on it.

How the shoot will benefit my portfolio

This shoot will benefit my professional portfolio because I didn’t have anything in there that reflected my true style and what I like to do, which is editorial, high fashion looks that are simple but really affected. I wanted to choose an eyeliner look as it gives me the opportunity to show that I am capable of the skill and can do it, as it is a popular demand in the make-up industry and a lot of people will ask for it as it is a trend that has always been around and always will be, so it is an important skill to be able to do as a make-up artist.

How it went on the day and did I overcome any obstacles

I was pleased and happy with the final look and how it turned out as I had issues with products on the day and had to change what I was using in order for it to work and look effective. I initially had the idea of using pink creme lipstick to create the winged eyeliner effect but the product I was attempting to use wasn’t suitable and it was smudging and not staying in place, I had to wipe this off and go for eye shadow instead, so I used one of my pigmented pink eye shadows to go along the lash line and then extend to create a wing, this gave me great affect and worked really well for me. The skin turned out how I wanted, dewy, natural and glowing, I thought this would go perfect with the type of look I wanted.

Evaluation

I am proud with how this turned out and I am more than happy to be adding this to my professional portfolio, I feel my skills are demonstrated well and would be happy presenting this to future employers. My model worked really well on helping me get the best shots I could get, she cooperated really well and she pulled off the look really nicely.
